How the Dog Training Club works:
We meet on Sunday mornings at Mapledurham (just outside Caversham) and work through the APDT Good Companion Awards. Your dog earns a certificate and a rosette at each level, and you both move up at your own pace, from Puppy and Foundation through to Improver and Advanced by invitation, with more levels on the way.
We work on all the real-life skills:
• Recall, even with distractions around
• Loose lead walking and heelwork
• Manners getting out of the car, and at doors and gates
• Sit stays and down stays
• Settling calmly
• Send to bed
And it’s not all serious. We do tricks and fun activities together too, because the whole aim is to build and strengthen the bond between you and your dog. That’s what it’s really about.
It’s non-competitive, and there’s no scary exam to sit. I sign off each behaviour as your dog shows it, as we go along. Some of our dogs have been coming for a few months, others for years, and we’ve become a good bunch who genuinely enjoy each other’s company.
Is the Dog Training Club right for you?
The Club is for dogs who’ve finished their puppy classes and want to keep going, and for our 1-2-1 clients ready to do more with their dogs. It’s for people who simply want to do more together.
It’s open to friendly dogs of any age, as long as they’re comfortable being around other dogs and people, and humans who are committed to learning.
Puppy & Foundation level is where all our new starters begin.
